Axonometric sketches

Initially, my axonometric sketches were too plain and not detailed enough to fully explore a concept. My later attempts were more successful, however I have realised many of them are symmetrical, so the flipped view is identical to the normal view.

I have just realized I have lost one scan of a sketch, i did complete 6.

Concept

      (The original five concepts for each architect were streamlined into four for each;)

The theme I have chosen is technology

Kazuyo Sejima:

• Geometric guidelines and hierarchy 
• Strong geometric guidelines, utilizing planar surfaces or slick and clean materials such as metal, marble and glass.
• Integration with surroundings
• Always attempts to integrate the work into the surrounding environment, with an emphasized use of glass that reflects and mediates internal and external space. 
• Realistic applications
• Sejima challenges conventional architectural practices, continuously confronting typical archetypes of thinking by approaching a design with realistic applications in mind. 
• Inhabitation and social use was crucial to the final project, with emphasis placed upon the circulation within the space. 
• Focus on continuous, flowing form 

Oscar Niemeyer:

• Emphasized curvature 
• Niemeyer was heavily influenced by curvature, and utilized little to no straight architecture in his buildings. 
• Combines clearly individual, conspicuous elements through synergistic forms and playful curvature. 
• Avoids structural conventions
• Believed in the freedom to break away from oppressive structural conventions 
• Often overturns assumptions of the necessary trajectory of gravitational forces, creating a surprising and perplexing aesthetic
• Micro and Macro influences 
• Designs buildings based upon macro and micro context (Brazilian social context and immediate surroundings)
• Monumental forms 
• Worked in monumental forms that stand out against the surroundings, whilst remaining sympathetic to the local environs 

Animations

For some reason my Lumion stopped working, thus had to stick to sketchup animation.

Textures

For my 36 textures i tried to create a range of styles, utilising heavy pen work as well as squares of mostly negative space. Variety allowed for more innovative ideas and also creates a better chance of one of the textures fitting my sketch-up model. Below i have shown the three textures present in the Sketch-up model.

Stairs

For my stair sections i went for opposing designs of spiral and geometric. The spiral staircase is a delicate, hanging feature that compliments a light, open space. Whereas the cubic, heavy stairs fit a rougher, darker environment within a geometric space.

Sections

18 sections completed for Issey Miyake and Louise Bourgeois, based on the words natural, light, soothe, emotional, scale and dominate. The first few sections are fairly plain as i didn't fully understand what i was supposed to do, but after some more attempts i managed to start coming up with more ideas quicker. I used the third section for my sketch-up model, with the above ground replicating the section of a flower, and the bottom linking to scale through the interlocking geometric squares of different sizes.

Two drawings completed for my year 12 Major work, the above done using a standard bic ball point pen, with the work below done using pencil. My major work looked at themes of family and time through the depiction of heirlooms and familial belongings.
